Playtime

created using powerpoint 2007

Our usual routine everynight is play with his stuffed toys and read books. He can actually say the word "books" (hindi bulol). He knows most of the animals and he imitates their actions or sounds.

Potty training

I'm so proud with my Basty. He's now using the potty trainer when he needs to pupu. Yehey, we're almost diaper free.
I realized that it's time to potty train him when he keeps on saying pupu right after he made pupu...he's irritated with the pupu in his diaper.

Result of the OGTT

According to the endo, if we use the American association standard, the result is negative (yehey), but if we use the WHO standard, the result is positive, borderline :(. Since it's not too high, she just advised me to avoid sweets...poor me, I can't eat ice cream, donuts, cakes, chocolates..... and here's the weird part, now that I know that I have to avoid sweets, I'm craving for anything sweet.
The endo also told me to go back to her after 2 weeks. They'll get blood sample, 2 hours after my last meal. Then she also said that I have to have another OGTT on the 8th month of my pregnancy, just to be on the safe side. Yup, another OGTT.... I feel like vomitting.

Nagtitipid...lalong napamahal

After my 75g OGTT, my OB recommended that I go to an endo. She referred me to an endo who also has a clinic at Makati Med. Instead of going there, I went to our office clinic and they told me that we have an endo, but his sked is every Thursday morning only. So I went to our office endo last Thursday and he requested that I get the 100g OGTT. He also told me to get a pink slip from our clinic so that I can go to his clinic outside the office once I have the result of the OGTT, since there's no work on May 1 (thursday). So last Sunday, I took the 100g OGTT at Makati MEd which I had to pay from my own pocket...cost is 1330. I got the result last Monday. After getting the result, I went to our clinic to get the pink slip I need to go to the endo. They told me that they can't give me the pink slip because my case is pregnancy related. So what choice do I have?
Yesterday, I went to the endo originally referred by my OB. To my dismay, I found out that there's really no need for the 100g OGTT. What?!!! After going thru the test (remember, 4 blood extractions, 3 hrs waiting, not to mention the cost of the test), the endo is telling me that If I went straight to her, the 75g OGTT would have suffice.
So you see, instead of nakatipid ako para dun sa consultation fee ng endo (550)...I ended up paying for the 100g OGTT and still paid the 550 consultation fee dahil I ended up going to her naman. HAy! Ang nagtitipid, lalong napamahal :(

Brushing

Here's how we brush Basty's teeth. There should be one holding Basty and another 1 doing the brushing. There's always struggling, crying, screaming and kicking every brushing time.

After brushing, he would stop crying and then request for the toothbrush so that he can do it on his own. He actually likes brushing, but he wants to be in control. We let him brush on his own after so that he would still enjoy brushing even if we have to do it by force at first. With all this effort, I do hope we win this battle against toothdecay. There's only one area where we fail. Basty still drinks milk at night and we can't let him drink water after. I also tried wiping the teeth with gauze after, but he keeps on tossing, making it really hard and sometimes I feel that I might wake him up if I insist to wipe the teeth.

Visit to the Pedia Dentist

We went to a pedia dentist about a week ago. We went to Dr. Eric Hernandez with clinic at Medical Plaza. He was highly recommended by Haidee, a fellow n@wie.

Basty and hubby (with yaya) went there ahead of me because they came from the house and I came from the office. The clinic has a glass door, so when I reached the place, I saw Basty playing and having a good time. But the moment we entered the main clinic (past the reception area), Basty was restless and he started crying the moment he was asked to open his mouth. He was screaming and kicking and turning his head from left to right while Dr. Eric brushed his teeth. That's actually the only thing that was done. Dr. Eric said that Basty's case is special. He didn't require cleaning and no cavities yet but the teeth are beginning to weaken. He said that if we delayed our visit for about 3 months, then the teeth might not be saved anymore. He told us to use GC Tooth Mousse to strengthen the teeth. He also asked us to give water after each milk intake of Basty. That's actually a very hard thing to do since Basty is still drinking milk before going to bed and he won't take water anymore after the milk because he's already sleeping by then. The other thing is to brush his teeth 3 times a day. Actually, Basty likes brushing, but he likes to do it himself, he doesn't want anybody to do the brushing and the dentist advised us to do the brushing ourselves because Basty will not be able to clean his teeth thoroughly. That's another problem, but can easily be handled. I was worried though that it might give Basty a trauma, but the dentist said that it won't. Basty will just cry because he won't get his way, but it will not be painful for him so it won't be traumatic for him.

We paid 500 for the consultation and 850 for the tooth mousse. We were asked to come back after a month so that the dentist can monitor if the mousse is working or not. With the high price of the mousse, it must work..hahaha.

Some people will say "why bother with the milk teeth when they will be replaced by permanent teeth; we should only be concerned with the permanent teeth". We were told that the growth of the permanent teeth will be affected by the milk teeth. Also if the milk teeth will have cavities/decay, they will affect my baby's eating…he might have a hard time if he feels pain. I guess another big factor is the fact that I REALLY would like my baby to have nice teeth, because mine are not so nice…I need to get braces. Now you know J

Another OGTT

Oh yes, you read it right. I need to have another test. The first test was 50 grams, second was 75 grams, and now I have to take the 100grams test. This time, there will be 4 extractions (0 hr, 1 hr, 2hr,3hr).

The endo doctor said there's no need to worry at this point and I don't need a special diet yet. He needs to see the result of the third test before he'll tell me what to do next.

It's just sad that our company will not cover for the lab test (I actually paid for the 2 previous tests and will have to shoulder this one too). They said the condition is pregnancy related that's why. It's good I verified the request of the doctor at the lab room before I left the clinic, because if not, I would have done my 10 hr fasting and be there at 7am tomorrow only to find out that they will not conduct the test. (I can imagine myself going bersek!)

Once again, I will request for you to include us in your prayers. I'll probably have the test this Sunday.

OGTT Result

The result is not good. It was recommended by my OB for me to see an endocrinologist. I will be going to see one tomorrow. I'm hoping that we can resolve this with proper diet instead of insulin shots. Please pray for me and my baby. Will give update tomorrow.

OGTT experience

The experience was not traumatic. It was actually better than I expected. I thought I was going to stay there for 4 hours and there will be 4 blood extraction and that i have to drink the juice each time. We were at Makati Med 6:45am and my first blood sample was taken at 7am. After the first blood sample, I was asked to drink the juice (tasted like royal) and was told to come back at 8am for the second blood extraction. To kill the time, me and hubby went to the third floor where they have a soft couch, instead of those hard wood seats. We were prepared to wait for a long time, so we brought the laptop with WeRoam to pass the time. I was not able to sleep the night before so I was really sleepy. While hubby did his surfing, I doze off...then it's time to go to the lab again. I went straight to the lab and had the second blood sample, third sample will be taken at 9am. Again, we went to the third floor and hubby surfed and I doze off to sleepkingdom. At 9am, had the last blood sample and was done. We hurriedly went home cause I was really hungry and thirsty already (had 10 hours fasting, no food, even water di pede). After eating and few minutes of rest, I finally was able to sleep well. Don't want to think of the result yet.
Side kwento:
Although they are improving their facilities naman...sana maayos na lahat soon. I also noticed na medyo friendlier na ang mga employees or baka experience ko lang.

Haircut

We went to Glorietta yesterday to get a haircut for Basty. Cuts for Tots moved to its new location at the 3rd floor of Glorietta 3. When we entered Kidzone, where Cuts for Tots is located, Basty didn't know where to go first, there were lots of toys. When we reached our destination, Basty saw the cars (seats they used for the kids) and he pointed at them. There was no hesitation when we put him in the 'car', but when he saw the barber's 'gadgets', he began screaming and wanted to get off the car.

We all had to entertain Basty just so he would sit still. There was also Barney show playing on TV. We'd catch his attention away from the barber for few minutes, and then we had to get another toy to entertain him again. I wasn't able to get lots of pictures since it took all of us to hold him steady.

Final cut, can't get him to seat anymore

After the hair cut, we had a hard time getting him out of place because there were lots of toys.

Here he is…isn't he cute J

OGTT

OMG! Based on the result of my glucose test last Monday, I have high sugar in my blood. My OB asked me to undergo OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) to check if I have Gestational Diabetes. Based from what I read on the web, the test will be done in about 4 hours or more and there will be 3 to 4 blood extration. I also have to fast..wawa naman my baby, magugutom sya. Just thinking about it makes me sick. I don't like needles as much as staying in the hallway of the hospital for almost half day. But what can I do? I have to undergo the test for my health and my baby's health.

Please pray for me and my baby. I do hope that this test won't be a bad news. I hate the idea of insulin shots. According to my OB, if I have Gestational diabetes, then I will have to be injected because oral meds will not be good for my baby.

There's only 1 good thing I can think about the test, the glucose juice (if that's what they call it) which I have to drink doesn't taste bad. I read from another blog (sorry can't remember the site) that she had to repeat the test because she vomitted due to the taste of the juice. Yes, you must not vomit and you have to drink it all within 5 minutes.

26 weeks

Had my regular check up yesterday. I gave the ultra sound result to my OB. According to her, everything looks ok. I gained 7lbs since my last check up (a month ago). It's my biggest gain so far, even if you compare it with my first pregnancy. That prompted my OB to request for a glucose challenge test specially when I told her that my mother is diabetic. Right after the check up, I went down to the lab (MMC) to have the test. They asked me to drink a glass of orange looking liquid which tasted like Royal then asked me to come back after an hour so that they can do the blood extraction. I'm not supposed to eat anything and move around. It was really a bore! So 2 minutes before the time, I was back. I hate to admit it but I'm scared of needles and blood so I had to close my eyes while the medtech did his thing. I really hope the result won't be bad news.

"Carpe Diem"

Carpe Diem in Wikipedia:
Carpe diem is a phrase from a Latin poem by Horace. It is popularly translated as "seize the day", although a more literal translation of carpe would be "harvest" ("harvest the day"), as in the harvesting of fruit.

The first time I encountered the phrase was in the movie "Dead Poets Society" starring Robin Williams. He has a dialogue in the movie that goes : "Carpe diem! Seize the day, boys! Make your lives extraordinary!"

I remember the phrase today because a friend of mine will undergo breast surgery. She has breast cancer. It makes me think how unpredictable life is. One moment your healthy, next, you have a cancer. My friend is only 31 years old, and yet, if something goes wrong, she might die today(i pray and hope that the operation will be successful). Doesn't that make you think? I mean, are you ready to die today? I am not! I still have plans. But, can I say that I don't want to die and that will happen? Can I really say when I'm supposed to die? Of course not. So the only thing that we can do is to "seize the day" and live life to the fullest.

Please include my friend in your prayers.

What will Basty be.....

Vet
Basty loves animals. He likes looking at cats and dogs and he likes to imitate their sounds. If we want him to sit steady, we play the baby einstein with animals.

Singer
He hums with me when I put him to sleep. Now that he can say some incomprehensible words, he sings with words.

Politician
He wows everybody in our condo. Most of the people in the condo knows him. Most of them we don't even know. They refer to us as Basty's mom or Basty's dad. He gets invited to parties.

Rocker
He does headbang a lot

Actor
He can act as if he's crying when he's not. We know he's faking it when there's no tears. He just keeps on wailing....waaaa waaaaa mamama mama maaamma

and the gender is....

I had my pelvic ultrasound last Saturday. I am so happy to say that we are expecting a baby girl and everything looks normal :)

I actually thought we'll have another boy dahil mas malikot sya kesa sa first and mas malaki ang tyan ko ngayon. But we were really hoping for a girl kaya talagang happy kami ngayon. Although kahit boy uli ok lang sa amin. A mother's prayer would always be for a normal child no matter what the gender is.
